The first thing for you to remember before you sign any document from the landlord is to make sure you know what you need, not what you want. See to it that the place has good access to schools, offices and other public facilities. Parking is also a good thing. Some apartment charge a quite high fee for parking.
Before you try to find any leasing agents, try to prepare a resume. You can fill the resume with data such as credit history, employment background, contact information, etc.
An apartment that is run by professionals is better than the one run by an individual. Professional management will have everything clear in writing making it easier for you to pay your liabilities and get your rights.
Check out the apartment by visiting it. See to it that it is just like it is advertised. Also see if any additional rules regarding the number of people who can stay in the place, pets, electricity, water usage, etc.
